And indeed, much service work is conducted by people who are ‘foreigners’ to the place they serve: volunteer and study abroad programs, voluntourism vacations, international fellowships and internships. Heck – you don’t even have to leave your own country nowadays to feel like there’s little ‘common ground’ with your neighbors!
So how do we handle relationship management, when we want to help someone in need, but really have no idea what they are going through?
